I Know I’ve Been Remiss

So hi everyone. Yes I’ve been absent, but haven’t forgotten about my blog. Between getting a new boss at work, getting crazy busy at work, dealing with college touring for my son and my daughter coming home for the summer to study for her MCATs, life has been hectic.

Not to mention the writing…

But the highlight over the past month has definitely been my trip to my first RT convention. I finally met the amazing Renee Bernard, and one of my favorite people in the world, Lindsey Ross. That, in and of itself would’ve made my trip complete, but lunch with Heather Snow, drinks with Samantha Grace and Julie Johnstone and an amazing dinner at The Palace Cafe, with Renee, Lindsey, Megan Bamford and her husband, thanks to the incredible author Anne Elizabeth, just was out of this world.

I do of course have a story, because it wouldn’t be me if there wasn’t some angst.

I had set up a pitch opportunity that Thursday when I arrived. My plane was due to land at 2:30, and my pitch was for 4:45. No problem, right?

Because the quickest way from NYC to New Orleans is through Milwaukee, Wisconsin, we sat on the runway there for over an over because of a problem with the plane. I now had an estimated arrival time of 3:30/ Which in actuality  turned into a 3:50 landing. I got my bag, flew to the cabstand, made it to the hotel at 4:25, where Lindsey the amazing had already picked up my registration. Ran up to the room, dropped my bag off, ran downstairs and made it to the pitch area with 5 minutes ot spare.

At which point I met the editor, sat down and had nothing in my head. Zero, zip, nada.

And that’s when I broke every so called “rule” for pitching and told her I couldn’t remember anything and the reason. She was wonderful and we chatted about my book, and she and I ended up sitting for half an hour with her where she asked me pointed questions I could answer. Didn’t give her names, titles anything. ¬†She asked for a full of the book I pitched, a blurb of the second and bullet points of the third.

The rest of the time was spent wandering the area, drinking and eating, going to wonderful panel discussions and playing Cards Against Humanity, the first night with some hysterically funny authors of LGBQT romance and the next night with Lindsey, Jenn Leblanc, Kati Rodriguez, Mia Ashlinn and Tina Dowds.
